Nam Joo-hyuk plays Gu-cheon, a man who can enter the spirit world while Roh Yoon-seo plays Saeng-gang, a princess who can hear the dead. When the king orders them to investigate the strange events taking place inside the East Palace, they begin uncovering secrets connected to the royal family, the spirits haunting the palace and events that powerful people would rather keep buried. Cho Seung-woo completes the main cast as the king.

In my opinion, the setting is one of the best things about this drama. The palace is beautiful but it never feels safe. Every dark corridor, locked room and quiet conversation makes you feel that something is waiting just out of sight.

The story also does a good job of connecting the supernatural mystery to the royal politics. The ghosts are not simply appearing because the drama needs a scare. They are tied to the palace’s history and the choices made by the people living inside it.

Nam Joo-hyuk gives Gu-cheon a calm, mysterious presence while Roh Yoon-seo makes Saeng-gang feel brave without turning her into someone who is suddenly unafraid of everything. Their abilities complement one another and their developing connection gives the darker story some warmth.

There are moments when the political side becomes complicated and the pacing slows while more palace secrets are introduced. However, the mystery remained strong enough to keep me interested.
