The Apothecary Diaries creator’s other manga is becoming an anime
If The Apothecary Diaries has turned you into a Natsu Hyuuga fan, another of the author’s stories is now heading to television.
The Failure at God School has officially been announced as a TV anime.
The supernatural school manga is written by Hyuuga and illustrated by Modomu Akagawara, with the adaptation announcement accompanied by its first teaser visual.
Before anyone starts booking a date on the anime calendar, however, there is one important detail.
It does not have a confirmed premiere date yet.
What is The Failure at God School?
The story takes place in a world where people possessing mysterious supernatural abilities can be recognised as gods.
Its protagonist, Nagi, receives an invitation to attend a school for aspiring gods despite apparently lacking the impressive divine powers associated with her classmates.
That immediately puts her in the unfortunate position suggested by the title: she appears to be the school’s failure.
The series has been running in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine since 2021.
A very different story from The Apothecary Diaries
The Hyuuga connection is naturally going to be the headline for international fans.
The Apothecary Diaries became a major anime success through Maomao’s adventures inside the imperial palace, mixing medical mysteries, political intrigue and character comedy.
The Failure at God School is not another version of that premise.
It moves into supernatural school fiction, with Nagi entering an institution filled with young people possessing extraordinary abilities.
That makes “from the creator of The Apothecary Diaries” a useful introduction, but not a description of what viewers should expect.
What has actually been announced?
At this stage, the confirmation is deliberately limited.
A TV anime is in production. A teaser visual has been released and an official website and social account have launched.
The studio, director, voice cast, broadcast window and episode count have not yet been announced in the available official reporting.
Which means this is exactly the stage where fandom rumours tend to sprint several kilometres ahead of reality.
So for now, there is only one thing we need to know.
Natsu Hyuuga has another story coming to anime.
And while we wait for Maomao, there may soon be another very unusual school to add to the watchlist.
