The BBC has announced that Ncuti Gatwa will succeed Jodie Whittaker as the star of Doctor Who. On the popular science fiction show, the 29-year-old will become the 14th Time Lord and the first non-white actor to portray the major character.
Gatwa, a Rwandan-born Scottish actor, is most known for his role in Netflix’s series Sex Education.

Gatwa was cast as Eric Effiong in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education in May 2018, and the show premiered in 2019 to critical praise. He has received multiple awards for the character, including a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in Television in 2020 and three BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Male Comedy Performance, one in each of the years 2020, 2021, and 2022.
