“Journey to Bethlehem” is a 2023 American Christian musical film, marking Adam Anders’ debut as a feature-length director. Co-written by Anders and Peter Barsocchini, the movie features Milo Manheim and Fiona Palomo in the lead roles of Joseph and Mary, along with Antonio Banderas portraying King Herod.

The musical unfolds the tale of Mary, a Nazarene teenager, who learns about her betrothal from her family. In an unexpected encounter at the market, Mary flirts with a young man, later revealed to be Joseph, her intended. Their plans take a divine turn when the angel Gabriel (Lacrea) announces Mary’s miraculous pregnancy, foretelling the birth of the son of God. This revelation creates a dilemma for Joseph, torn between proceeding with their marriage or distancing himself from Mary.

Simultaneously, King Herod, prompted by visions and information from the wise men Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar, embarks on a quest to locate a baby destined to be the king of the Jews. He orders his son, Antipater, played by Joel Smallbone, to find the mysterious mother and newborn.

As Mary and Joseph journey to Bethlehem for the census amidst challenges, they hold onto the assurance of the impending miracle. The film weaves a musical narrative that explores faith, love, and the extraordinary events leading to the birth of a divine child.

The Birth Of Jesus

Luke 2:6-14 (New International Version):
6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Merry Christmas!
