The Care Bears Return: Warner Bros. Developing Live-Action Remake of Iconic Franchise

If you grew up in the ’80s or early 2000s, chances are the Care Bears were a big part of your childhood. Maybe you had a stuffed Cheer Bear on your bed, or you begged your parents to let you watch Care Bears: The Movie for the tenth time. Well, hold onto your nostalgia, because the Care Bears are making a comeback — and they’re heading to the big screen in live-action.

Yup. Live. Action. Care. Bears.

Warner Bros. just confirmed that a new Care Bears film is in development, and this time the bears are getting the Hollywood treatment — real environments, CGI fur, expressive eyes, the works. It’s the kind of news that makes you text your siblings and scream, “Look who’s back!”

Who’s making it happen?

The film will be directed by Josh Greenbaum — the guy who gave us Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and Strays (both weird, fun, and full of personality). That already tells you this isn’t going to be your average sugary-sweet kids’ movie. There’s comedy in the mix, and probably some cheeky charm too.

The production team behind Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is also on board. Which means this movie has a real shot at being both funny and actually good. And let’s be real, we need that. We’ve had enough soulless reboots.

What’s it about? No clue. Do we care? Also no.

Details are super scarce — no release date, no cast, no plot just yet. But honestly, it doesn’t matter. The fact that we might see Grumpy Bear side-eyeing his way through a magical forest in full CGI glory is enough to get us excited. Can you imagine the emotional chaos when they all do the Care Bear Stare in 2025-level special effects?

Why does this matter?

Because the Care Bears were more than just cute faces with belly badges. Each one had a personality that helped kids understand emotions — from sadness to silliness to sunshine. They were gentle but powerful. Cheesy? Maybe. But in a world that feels a little heavy, who wouldn’t want a reminder that caring is cool?

Final thoughts: Is this Paddington-level potential or a CGI fever dream?

We’re hoping for Paddington-style success: wholesome, heartwarming, a little weird, and deeply rewatchable. If done right, this could be the revival we didn’t know we needed.

Either way, we’ll be there — popcorn in one hand, stuffed Funshine Bear in the other.
