Love in the Clouds – Review
Love in the Clouds transports us to a richly imagined xianxia world where dual identities, hidden motives, and swirling power struggles drive more than just sword fights. The story follows Ming Yi, a war goddess who has dominated the annual tournament for seven years under the guise of a man, and Ji Bozai, a former convict-turned-champion whose mysterious past threatens to upend everything. After their clash, Ming Yi disguises herself as a dancer to get close to Ji Bozai in order to find the antidote to a poison inflicted on her — but what starts as a mission of vengeance slowly becomes something far more complex.
The leads, played by Lu Yuxiao and Hou Minghao, bring strong chemistry to the screen. Their characters are equally clever, cunning, and wounded, and watching their dance of deception turn into real connection is one of the show’s standout pleasures. The production values also shine: from sweeping landscapes to elaborate costumes and the subtle play of light and shadow in key scenes, the visuals enhance the drama in meaningful ways.
That said, there are a few bumps. The pacing in early episodes is slow by design — some viewers feel the plot takes too long to pick up steam. A few character arcs and side-plots could have been tighter, and the sheer volume of realms, powers, and hidden agendas sometimes makes the story feel layered almost to the point of overload.
But when the emotional stakes hit — trust broken, sacrifices made, reputations torn down — the drama delivers in both heart and spectacle.
Final Score: 9/10.
A beautiful, emotionally rich fantasy thriller-romance that might ask you to be patient at the start, but ultimately rewards with clever leads, stunning visuals, and that “did I just binge the whole thing?” feeling.
