#11. Batman and Catwoman
Apart from the numerous Batman movies, DC’s comics also explore the relationship between Batman and Catwoman. Batman and Catwoman became strongly romantically involved during the Batman: Hush story arc. Batman ended their romantic relationship because he was unsure if Catwoman had been a willing participant in Hush’s plot. Even when their romance rekindled later, Batman still suspected that Selina’s reformation could be a result of a personality-altering mindwipe by Zatanna. In pre-Crisis continuity, the Earth-Two versions of Batman and Catwoman were shown to have married in the 1950s, and later Selina gave birth to a daughter, Helena Wayne (alias Huntress) in 1957.
In Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, Selina seems to be the true love of Bruce’s life, as not only their costumed identities but also their disturbed psyches are described as similar. In All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder Batman’s strong romantic feelings toward her are based on the fact that she’s sort of a female version of himself: Another dark, beautiful creature that prowls in the night. In Batman: The Animated Series, Bruce Wayne regularly dates Selina Kyle. In Batman Beyond, Bruce hints at a relationship with Selina in his past, as well as comparing that relationship with Terry’s and the current 10 of the Royal Flush Gang. As in the comic books, sexual tension between their costumed characters is a major story point in Batman: The Animated Series. In Batman: The Brave and the Bold, the two regularly flirt, which others notice. Alfred even goes so far as writing a story about them where they marry. In Batman: Arkham City, although their love is not explored, Catwoman constantly flirts with the Dark Knight whenever they meet. Catwoman even gives up her sure escape from Arkham City to go back and help the injured Batman. A hidden radio reel reveals that Catwoman has a slight grudge for Batman, though, since he knows her secret identity but she doesn’t know his. In The Dark Knight Rises, Selina (played by Anne Hathaway) does not develop a romantic interest in Bruce until later on in the film. In the end the two are shown to have developed a relationship when Alfred sees them sitting at a table nearby him at a cafe in Florence (source: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Batman’s_Love_Interests). In the new TV drama – Gotham, the romance between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle is already blooming, even though they are just children in this series.
#12. Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker — Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones
Padmé Amidala was a courageous, hopeful leader, serving as Queen and then Senator of Naboo — and was also handy with a blaster. Despite her ideals and all she did for the cause of peace, her secret, forbidden marriage to Jedi Anakin Skywalker would prove to have dire consequences for the galaxy (source: starwars.com). If it was not for this union, we would never have met Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker. Forbidden romance – we salute you!
#13. Amy and Rory (BBC’s Doctor Who)
Rory and Amy is one of the most romantic couples in Sci Fi. Rory Williams — sometimes called Rory Pond — was Amy Pond’s husband. He became a companion of the Eleventh Doctor on the night before their wedding, but he died and was erased from history after being absorbed by the Time Field. Shortly before the Pandorica was opened, Rory reappeared, in a fashion, waited for Amy to come out of the Pandorica for 1,894 years and was restored to normal after the second Big Bang. He went on to marry Amy and resumed travelling with her and the Doctor. During this time, his child, Melody Pond, was born. When the Doctor married River, Rory became his father-in-law. In 2012, he was sent back in time by a Weeping Angel, and was soon followed through time by his wife. He died at age 82 some time before 2012. His gravestone stood in a graveyard in New York. Amy pulled apart time for him. Rory waited 2,000 years for her. The Centurion and the Girl Who Waited have a love that spans across the stars and made everyone cry as they made their exit on Doctor Who (source: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Rory_Williams).
#14. Elizabeth Swann and William Turner (Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3)
Elizabeth Turner (née Swann) was the daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann. With an adventurous spirit and the need to break societal boundaries, she had long been fascinated with the freewheeling world of buccaneers to a point of learning a song about pirates as a child. Over the years, Elizabeth blossomed into a beautiful young lady, although drove her father to distraction with her willfulness and disregard for propriety. Both Jack Sparrow and Will Turner change Elizabeth’s notions of romance and adventure forever, soon learning that all the rules she believed in are meant to be broken. During the course of the movies, the romance between Will and Elizabeth develops. At one stage they are on the verge of marrying when they were arrested by Lord Cutler Beckett of the East India Trading Company for saving Jack Sparrow. Much later, during the final battle against Beckett’s Armada, Will and Elizabeth were married. Shortly after Davy Jones stabbed Will Turner, Will himself pierced Jones’ heart, thereby becoming the new captain of the Flying Dutchman. After the pirates’ victory, Will and Elizabeth spent one day with each other, during which time they conceived a child. Before Will left to serve aboard the Dutchman for ten years, Elizabeth promised to keep his heart, now locked in the Dead Man’s Chest, safe (source: http://pirates.wikia.com/wiki/Elizabeth_Swann).
#15. Thor and the Lady Sif
Sif is a warrior goddess of Asgard and the sister of Heimdall, the watchman of Asgard. As a child she had golden hair and was an occasional playmate of Thor, son of Asgard’s ruler Odin, and Thor’s adoptive brother Loki.
While Thor and Sif were still adolescents, they fell in love with each other. Determined to ruin his hated adoptive brother’s happiness by ending the relationship between Thor and Sif, Loki cut off all of Sif’s golden hair while she slept. Realizing Loki must have been responsible, Thor angrily confronted Loki and demanded that he restore Sif’s hair. Loki sought out the dwarves Brokk and Eitri and asked that they create new hair for Sif through their arts. However, Loki was either unable or unwilling to pay the dwarves gold for this work. The dwarves decided that for the “price of naught” they would create “strands of naught.” They magically created long black hair from the blackness of night. Once set upon Sif’s head, the hair magically took root and began to grow. Thor thought Sif was even more beautiful with the black hair than she had been before, and thus Loki’s plan to ruin their romance failed. Eventually Thor and Sif parted when Sif began her training to be a warrior in earnest. Odin, lord of Asgard, had long deemed Sif to be a fitting mate for his son Thor. Just after Thor’s relatively brief relationship with the mortal woman Jane Foster came to an end. Odin, hoping to turn Thor’s feelings in a different direction, arranged for him to meet Sif once more. Sif was now highly accomplished in the ways of the warrior. Soon after meeting Sif again, Thor and Sif became lovers and companions, as well as allies in numerous battles. #16. Wall-E and Eve (Disney·Pixar’s Wall-E)
WALL-E, short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class, is the last robot left on Earth. He spends his days tidying up the planet, one piece of garbage at a time. But during 700 years, WALL-E has developed a personality, and he’s more than a little lonely. Then he spots EVE (Elissa Knight), a sleek and shapely probe sent back to Earth on a scanning mission. Smitten WALL-E embarks on his greatest adventure yet when he follows EVE across the galaxy (source: IMDb).
#17. Stardust
The book / movie’s main character, Tristran Thorn, a half-Faerie creature raised by his father Dunstan Thorn and stepmother Daisy, whom he believes to be his mother. Tristran foolishly promises to retrieve a fallen star for the girl he wants to be his sweetheart, Victoria, and so unexpectedly finds the beautiful Yvaine. Yvaine is a fallen star. In Faerie, stars are living creatures. Yvaine appears to be immortal, but not invulnerable. She is pursued by the Lilim and the surviving sons of the Lord of Stormhold, who want her for their own reasons. When Tristran realises his love for her, he abandons his courtship of Victoria Forester, and Yvaine marries him despite their inability to have children (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stardust_(novel).
#18. Leela and Fry — Futurama
Philip J. Fry, commonly known simply by his surname, Fry, is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the animated sitcom Futurama. He is voiced by Billy West using a version of his own voice as he sounded when he was 25He is a slacker delivery boy from the 20th century who becomes cryonically frozen and reawakens in the 31st century to become a delivery boy there with an interstellar delivery company run by his descendant, Professor Farnsworth. Leela is Fry’s main love interest, and his love for her provides a major plot line throughout the series. Fry first begins to show a serious interest in her from the second season onwards, although she constantly turns him down for other dates due to his immaturity, though she says that she loves his boyish charm. Leela initially sees Fry as a friend and nothing more, but deeper affection for him appears occasionally, such as on the numerous occasions when he risks his life for hers (“The Sting”, “Love and Rocket”, “Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences”). In the film Futurama: Bender’s Big Score Leela falls in love with a seemingly perfect man, Lars, and they soon become engaged. However, Lars leaves Leela on her wedding day explaining later that as a time paradox he is doomed, and that he wouldn’t marry her only to have her lose him soon after. Through this he then reveals that he is in fact the time paradox of Fry, who had undergone physical changes due to an explosion and become more mature through twelve years of age and experience. At the end of the film Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder, Leela openly admits to loving Fry, and they commence an openly romantic relationship from the episode “Rebirth” onwards (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fry_%28Futurama%29).
#19. Lois Lane and Clark Kent — Superman
Clark Kent and Lois Lane are among the best known fictional couples. The characters—including Clark’s alter ego, Superman—debuted in the DC Comics publication Action Comics #1 (June 1938), and have remained in a complicated relationship ever since.
The couple’s relationship was based for a long time in a love triangle, in which Clark was interested in Lois, who was taken with Superman. Clark, unable to reveal to Lois that his mild-mannered demeanor was a ruse, was unable to compete for Lois’ affection, the irony being he was his own rival seeing that Clark and Superman are the same person. Following John Byrne’s The Man of Steel re-boot, Clark’s character became not only the more dominant personality of the Clark Kent/Superman character, but also more outgoing, aggressive, and assertive (more in line with George Reeves’ portrayal on Adventures of Superman). This allowed a more natural romance to develop between Lois and Clark.
Finally, Clark proposes to Lois and decides to reveal his identity as Superman to Lois, and so they began a long engagement which was complicated by the death of Superman, a breakup and several problems. At last, in 1996 Lois and Clark got married and Superman: The Wedding Album was released. #20. Penelope and Max (real name Johnny) – Penelope
In this modern-day romantic tale, Penelope is about a young girl’s inspiring journey, a mysterious family secret, and the power of love. With all odds against her, in order for Penelope to break the family curse, she must find true love with “one of her own kind” and realize the most important life lesson, “I like myself the way I am.” Penelope Wilhern, born to wealthy socialites, is afflicted by the Wilhern spell that can only be broken when she finds love. Hidden away in her family’s estate, the lonely girl meets a string of suitors in her parents’ futile attempt to break the curse. Each eligible bachelor is enamored with Penelope and her sizable dowry; until her curse is revealed. Lemon, a mischievous and eager tabloid reporter, wants a photograph of the mysterious Penelope and hires Max (real name Johnny) to pose as a prospective suitor to get the shot (source: IMDb). Max falls in love with her and commits to Penelope, not knowing the spell is already broken. True love indeed.
