Frankenstein (Guillermo del Toro) Review

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is everything you’d hope for from a director who understands beauty in the grotesque. This adaptation finally tells the story the way it deserves to be told — not just from the scientist’s perspective, but from the Creature’s as well. And that shift changes everything.

The film explores Victor Frankenstein’s obsession, guilt and god-complex, but what truly stands out is how del Toro gives the Creature a voice, a soul and a heartbreaking humanity. Instead of being treated like a mindless monster, he becomes a tragic figure. Curious, emotional and painfully aware of his place in a world that refuses to accept him.

The performances are powerful across the board, the visuals are stunning and the gothic atmosphere is rich without being overwhelming. The emotional weight hits hard because del Toro never leans on cheap scares, he builds empathy. You feel the Creature’s loneliness, his longing and his anger born from rejection.

It’s dark, poetic and surprisingly tender. A story about creation, responsibility and what makes someone human… or monstrous.

Final Score: 9/10.
A haunting, beautifully crafted re-telling that redefines the Creature not as a monster, but as the most human character in the entire film.
