James Gunn’s Superman Review
James Gunn’s Superman is a bold reboot that ditches the origin story and drops us into a world where the Man of Steel is already a controversial figure. David Corenswet steps into the cape with sincerity and quiet intensity, giving us a Superman who’s still hopeful—but clearly worn down by the weight of public opinion.
The plot is ambitious: Lex Luthor unleashes chaos, other metahumans enter the mix, and Superman must prove he’s still the symbol the world needs. The film looks fantastic—colorful, energetic, and refreshingly comic-book in tone—but with real emotional stakes. Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane is sharp and grounded, and Nicholas Hoult brings a slick, dangerous edge to Lex. That said, the film is a bit crowded, with so many heroes introduced that it sometimes feels like a soft Justice League pilot. Still, Gunn balances heart, action, and spectacle better than we’ve seen from DC in years.
Final score: 8.5 out of 10.
A fresh, hopeful take that finally puts the “Super” back in Superman.
