Is The NEW Beetlejuice 2 Movie Worth Watching Now?

After more than thirty years, Tim Burton brings back the ghost with the most in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton still owns the role—his chaotic, over-the-top energy is easily the best part of the movie. Winona Ryder returns as Lydia, which gives the film a nice nostalgic kick, and Jenna Ortega adds some spark as her daughter, Astrid. The cast is solid, but unfortunately, the story doesn’t rise to the same level.

Visually, Burton leans into his trademark style: practical effects, weird sets, and some fun stop-motion sequences. It looks good, but at times it feels like the movie is relying too much on quirky design rather than a strong plot. And that’s the biggest issue—the story is cluttered with too many subplots, from ghostly ex-wives to afterlife bureaucracy, and in the chaos, the emotional heart between Lydia and her daughter gets buried.

There are moments of fun, especially when Keaton is let loose, but the film doesn’t capture the sharp wit or originality of the first. Instead, it feels more like a nostalgic reunion tour than a fully realized sequel.

Final score: 6 out of 10. Fun in flashes and worth seeing for the cast, but overall, a messy and forgettable follow-up to a classic.
