This is certainly not a movie for kids as it delves a bit into the darker mythology of Santa Clause legend and the surrounding legends about him. Rare Exports is a good movie to watch.
Just be warned there are English subtitles. If you are more into the horror genre, this one is for you. This is not a movie for Christmas cheer, but it’s still a Christmas Movie and it’s a good movie as well.
The story follows a group of local reindeer herders whose Christmas is disrupted by mountain excavations. A scientist has ordered a team of employees to dig open what he refers to as the “world’s largest burial mound.” The crew uses an explosive to unearth what is considered to as a “holy grave.” The grave’s tenant, on the other hand, is still living. The local people’s beloved reindeer are inexplicably murdered, and children and supplies begin to vanish from the town. The tenant reveals himself to be the originator of the Santa Claus legend; a supernatural creature who, rather than praising good children, punishes the bad. One family, however, manages to catch the culprit in a trap, and plans to sell it to the scientist to cover the losses caused by his excavation.
